No inspiration, little motivation. And listening to my friends and fellow artists, I'm not alone! So here's a few tips to get you started...
So what can you do to break this cycle?
Get Outside Living in the UK I'm positive the weather at the moment isn't helping, its been a long cold winter and apart from a brief day of blue skies last week, February is just D-U-L-L! So my first suggestion is to wrap up warm and get outside, take a walk in the country or local park, notice the small changes, the snowdrops are in flower at the moment, daffoldil shoots are pushing up throught the soil! And why not take a picnic? Think I'm mad? Soup and homemade bread eaten on a park bench sounds pretty good on a cold afternoon, and I'm sure you can think of other ideas.
Routine is hardly inspiring is it? If you do the same things day in day out its no wonder you're not getting inspired. Today is the day you should change things around, plan your day differentely. Maybe if you swap what you want to do to a different time of day, you'll have more energy and less 'other things' on your mind, so you'll be free to do what you want to do
Just get started, yes I know - you don't have the get up and go, you're tired there are other things to do and you just don't have the inspiration! But sometimes just setting everything out ready and doing a no-brainer task , sewing a few straight lines on your machine, stamping a message inside a handmade card, or sorting your food cupboard can kickstart your enthusiasm, finding a spice you've fotgotten about can inspire a new recipe, a material in your fabric pile you'd forgotten could spark a new design!
Look after yourself Now you've got off the sofa and got outside, lets see how you're doing.. how do you feel? If you're not looking after yourself, your motivation is bound to hit rock bottom. Make sure you're eating right, resting well and giving yourself regular treats. Once you feel better in yourself you're much more likely to feel inspired and motivated.
Get new inspiration Always watch the same tv, read similar books, search the same old blogs? Shake things up! A simple change in habit can fill your world with new stimulus. Do you always read, biographys or self help books, swap to fiction or even flick through a childrens book for new ideas. Spend the evenings watching soaps? try a musical or a period drama! You don't have to give up on your old habits, just sprinkle a little variety in there.
I think that's enough to be starting with , so go try those out ....... and let me know which you are trying first and how you get on by leaving your choice in the comments below!
